Undead music

American critic Greg Sandow started - what he calls - performing a book on his artsjournal blog, dealing with the downfall of classical music and what to do about it.

One of the things he does is comparing classical music institutions with theatre, where most of the plays performed are written by contemporary playwrights.

Do we see many contemporary composers address the needs of the audience? Do we see orchestras playing a majority of the music by contemporary composers?

No, we don't.

Since this issue is kind of global I am going to follow Sandows writings like a shadow. Most probably there are some new insights to be gained here.
