Exit

The cameraman has prepared himself well. His camera is ready on a tripod, the light is on and the audio check is complete.

It is an evening on which a concert is broadcast live from the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. The Concertgebouworkest and pianist Yefim Bronfman are going to play the Fifth Piano Concerto by Ludwig Van Beethoven under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe.

A large team has been working behind the scenes for days on preparations for the broadcast. Remote controlled cameras are hanging in the hall, ready to record in from different angels. As with sports competitions, the stars are interviewed before and after the ‘game’. A presenter asks them what they think or expect of the performance; “what went through your mind?” But the presenter hasn’t arrived, yet.

The cameran behind the scenes

The cameraman is waiting behind the scenes for the moment when he can get to work. During the broadcast, he will send good quality images to the control room. The cameraman is wearing headphones. With this he receives assignments from the director and with a microphone he is able to consult.

But, now one hour before the broadcast starts, the cameraman wears the headset ‘half’ on his head. While he waits for the interviewer, he is pacing the small box up and down. In the meantime, a colleague of him, who makes a corporate film, is observing. With the gracefully draped curtains on the left and right of the window, the empty Grand Hall forms a beautiful backdrop for the upcoming broadcast.

Eye Print

“I print, so I am.”

A photo that is not printed on paper is like a photo that has not been taken. Anyone who has had a printed photo in their hands knows that the tactile experience is unparalleled. That is why Renske prints all her fevorite photos. Every week she publishes a digital photo of a photo print online – under the name Eye Print. She places the photo with a short description of how the photo was created and what it is about.
